Adair County Schools lose Nickel Tax vote by 73%-27% vote

Only one precinct, South Columbia, votes for Nickel Tax;15 precincts, as well as absentee balloting, vote Against

The Nickel Tax was soundly defeated in the Tuesday, December 6, 2005 special election.

The final vote was 2,326 Against to 864 For, a 72.92% to 27.08% advantage.

Tony Loy files for re-nomination for Third District Magistrate

Third District gets third candidate for magistrate today; one more is studying strategy for campaign, but hasn't filed.

Incumbent Magistrate Tony Loy filed for re-election today, Tuesday, December 6, 2005.

He was the only candidate to file so far this week in the office of Adair County Court Clerk Ann Melton.

Chief Harris reports activity of Columbia Police for November 2005


People usually "want to pick up a little something extra," but not this year. Burglary season is here and there are few burglaries
Chief Mark Harris reports a pretty calm month of November in 2005 with only 53 citations being issued by the Department.

"This is burglary season," he said, "and we haven't had any burglaries." The reason for a higher number of break-ins and burglaries during this time is the season. "People are wanting to pick up a little something extra for Christmas," he said, adding that, unfortunately, in the past, some have wanted to help themselves at somebody's else's home or business."
