A.M. traffic jams may not be so bad after turning lanes built

2005-11-18 - Adair County Schools Main Campus, Columbia, KY - Photo Staff. Traffic flow into Colonel William Casey, bad enough now, would get much worse in the fall of 2006 were it not for turning lanes the state has promised to build before the opening of school next year. Increased traffic will arrive with the opening of the new Adair County Elementary School. The Western Bypass is not expected to be open until 2007, but the turning lanes on Greensburg Street should alleviate the problem.

NICKEL SCHOOL TAX COMMENT: CWC Principal Patty Jones shares why she favors it

The vote on the proposed nickel school tax comes up on December 6th. Between now and then, we welcome comments to help give voters the full picture of why it is proposed and what it will do if it passes. Below are comments with links to photos from Col. William Casey Elementary Principal Patty Jones.
"As principal of Col. Wm. Casey I feel we have a wonderful school. Howeverthe building that houses our school is not so wonderful. We have anantiquated sewer system that backs up on a regular basis, a roof that leakseverytime it rains, a heating and cooling system that is in constant need ofrepair, an electrical system that is decades behind its level of need forthe 21st Century and a building that is way beyond its capacity for studentsthat forces us to have classes in hallways and closets.

"I want to publicly recognize the band," Superintendent Darrell Treece told those in attendance at last night's Adair County School Board meeting. "They're undefeated. National Champions. It's and unprecedented for the band, the Band Boosters, for Mr. Allen, and Adair County."

He pledged to find a suitable way of honoring them. "We're going to do more than say 'You did a good job,'" he said.

CYRUS: Diddleism about LWC was compliment, wasn't it?

The news about the soon-to-be unveiled statue of Gradyville's most famous son reminded me of something from an article in the December 16, 1942 Adair County News.
Coach Diddle and his Western Teachers College varsity team blew into town on Dec. 12, 1942 and mauled the undermanned Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders 74-14. (Lindsey had lost so many males to the US armed service, the seven Blue Raiders accounted for nearly ten percent of the entire student body. - Cyrus)
