Knifley driver injured when pickup leaves road, strikes tree

Martin Ray Pyles, 21, Knifley, KY, was taken to Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, KY, following an accident 13 miles east of Columbia on KY 1104, The accident occurred at 12:09 p.m., Monday afternoon, November 14, 2005.

Pyles was traveling eastbound on KY 1104 in a 1974 Datsun pickup when he lost control of he vehicle, ran off the roadway, and struck a tree. No seatbelt was in use.

ACHS Band plays in front of 30,000 to win Grand Nationals



2005-11-14 - Indianapolis, IN - Photo Doyle Lloyd. THE ADAIR COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND brought home the first ever national championship for their school. They have gone to the Grand Nationals five times in the past, have made it to third, and have made it to second place. This was the year they made it all the way to Number 1 in their class in the Nation.

Everyone remembers the Columbia Redhounds and Adair County High School Coach John Burr; but Cyrus presents a little-known facet of the legendary coach's career

The advent of basketball season always brings to mind legendary Coach John Burr, whose coaching career spanned 27 years (1941-1968); two high schools: the old Columbia High and later, Adair County High; and 572 victories high school victories.

All Adair Countians over a certain age remember Coach Burr, and many still can recite chapter and verse of his string of outstanding teams, players, and coaching successes. John Burr also played basketball at Lindsey in '37-'39 and was rated one of the best athletes ever to hit the hardwood there.

"Moonlight Schools" Creator is Focus of 2005 Archives SymposiumCora Wilson Stewart and her efforts to combat illiteracy through the"Moonlight School" movement are the subjects of this year's Public ArchivesSymposium.

Cora Wilson Stewart was an elementary school teacher and county school superintendent ineastern Kentucky who, in the fall of 1911, decided to open the classrooms inher district to adult pupils, later known as the Moonlight School movement.

Three people received treatment following a head-on collision in the limits of Burkesville, Cumberland County, KY, on North Main Street, Sunday evening, November 13, 2005, at 7:20 p.m.

Lisa L. Stewart, 34, Burkesville, KY, was operating a 2000 GMC, traveling south on North Main Street.
