The City of Columbia received good word from the auditors at Monday night's regular monthly meeting, November 7, 2005.

The City's revenues grew 20% in Fiscal Year 2004/05, while expenditures were up just 12%. Excluding the one time expenditure for the new fire truck, the City saw a general fund increase of $21, 861, to $1,868,927.

Dancing in the Homecoming Parade



2005-11-07 - Columbia, KY - Photo Linda Waggener. THESE LITTLE COLUMBIA DANCERS took part in the Homecoming parade Saturday. They marched over Lindsey hill and up Campbellsville Street to the square, or until they got too tired to go on, and were picked up by Moms standing by. They are students at the Dance Shop in Russell Springs.

Ruth Moore Hughes, 85, former Flatwoods community resident

Funeral services will be held at Grissom Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 1 p.m. for Ruth Hughes who passed away Saturday. She was the daughter of the late George and Luida Hunter Moore and was the widow of Chester Hughes. She was a member of the Santa Fee Baptist Church.

KSP Coming to Campbellsville looking for trooper applicants

Janice Marie Milby Whitlow, 41

Mrs. Janice Marie Milby Whitlow, age 41, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2005 from injuries received in an automobile accident which happened as she was returning home to Greensburg from visiting family in the Breeding community of Adair County. Visitation begins tomorrow, Tuesday, November 8, in Greensburg's Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.

Family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the National Guard Family Support Rediness Group which can be made at the funeral home.

Tornados moved through Ohio River Valley early Sunday morning

We enjoyed Indian Summer warm days and soft breezes over the homecoming weekend, however, we did experience a storm watch. During the sleeping hours from Saturday night to Sunday morning, tornados moved through Ohio River Valley with no injuries reported in Kentucky. But when the storm jumped the Ohio River into Indiana, it destroyed a mobile home park in the small town of Newburg, Indiana near Evansville and several people were killed.

Opal Fay Melton, 48, graveside services

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Caldwell Chapel Cemetery for Opal Fay Melton who died Saturday at her Campbellsville home after an illness.

Visitation will take place after 1 p.m. at the cemetery during the hour prior to the service. Grissom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and will have directions to the cemetery.
