State may put caution light at 206 and Green Hills, Mayor Bell says

  2. They also get receptive hearing from Highway Commissioner Marc Williams to cut down, beautify rock ledge on Burkesville ST

Mayor Pat Bell said that during Kentucky Highway Commissioner Marc Williams' visit to Columbia, Tuesday, October 18, 2005, he and former Columbia Mayor Curtis Hardwick went over the town to see construction sites and to show Commissioner Williams where other highway improvements are needed here. Mr. Hardwick is now Special Assistant to the Commissioner of Intergovernmental Affairs, for the State of Kentucky.

Adair Co. Board of Education Agenda Regular October 20, 2005 meeting


Related ColumbiaMagazine.com poll asks your opinion on whether School Board should fight for Nickel Tax approval at polls if Recall Petition makes election necessary. Every reader is asked to vote one time.
The Adair County Board of Education agenda for its regular meeting, Thursday, October 20, 2005, does promise some interesting topics in its 18-item agenda, with an update on the CATS scores from Phyllis Curry, Instructional Supervisor and a request for baseball field improvements from Ryan McQueary.

The board will also be approving over $573,113.82 in construction payments on the new Adair County Elementary School.While there is no mention of the Nickel Tax Recall petition, comments on the issue might come in the Superintendent's report, Public Comments segment, or from individual board members.

The meeting is open to the public.

One driver cited, treated and released, following 3 vehicle pile-up

First car forced to stop in roadway on KY 80 in Russell Springs, KY; second stopped hehind her; third fails to see traffic slowing and causes chain reaction
Deloris Miller, 51, Russell Springs, KY, was cited to court for DUI and no insurance, following a three-vehicle accident. She was not wearing a seat belt, and was treated and released at Russell County Hospital.

The accident occurred this evening, Wednesday, October 19, at 4:37 p.m., on KY 80 in Russell Springs, KY.

New books have arrived at Adair Library for fall reading pleasure

This is the first time that thelibrary has ever issued library cards so if you do nothave one come by and register for one. It only takes aminute to fill out for a library card and they arefree!!

Obituary: Annie Turner Lawhorn, 90, retired nurse

Graveside services will be held for Annie Lawhorn this afternoon at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at the McClister Cemetery in the Fairplay community after a morning funeral in Louisville. Mrs. Lawhorn was married to Willie Lawhorn who preceded her in death in 1983. She was a retired nurse and was a member of the Bethleham Baptist Church. Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home will have details and directions on local arrangements.

Nickel Tax Recall petition now has almost half of needed qualified signers

Over half of names examined are passing scrutiny

Present ratio of approval would project to 1,189 valid names.

The Nickel Tax Recall Petition had a total of 369 signers validated this morning at 9:15 a.m., according to County Court Clerk Ann Melton.

The figure is 49.59% of the total needed to force an election on the issue, should the Adair County School District elect to take it to a vote.

Hear ghost stories and see a scary movie on Thursday, October 27 at the Library

The Adair County Public Library in collaboration with the Adair County Substance Abuse Coalition and Title IV, Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities will celebrate Halloween a little early this year by holding its second annual Hallow-Read, Thursday, October 27 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. According to LeeAnn Jesse, Adair County librarian, Hallow-Read was enjoyed by many children and parents last year and is just a fun evening devoted to reading stories to the children of our community.

County concentrating on roadsides; City-wide cleanup is goal in Columbia

Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator A.L. Sinclair announced this morning, Wednesday, October 19, 2005, that his clean-up crew hit the 100 mile mark yesterday.Today, he said, they will continue to work on West KY Hwy 80, the last major road still awaiting roadside cleanup.
