Shawn Samuell and Dream Depot singers to entertain Saturday night

Local singer Shawn Samuell has put together a show filled with musical entertainment for Saturday nights, October 22 and 27. Also singing in the show will be Yulonda Bradshaw, Gary (Red) Samuell, Judy Somerville, Patty G and Jenny Cundiff. The emcee will be Donna Feese.

New author Teasie Bryant Dodrill with her cookbook



2005-10-18 - Knifley, KY - Photo Linda Waggener. TEASIE DODRILL SHOWED OFF HER NEW COOKBOOK at the Giles Festival earlier this month. The name of the book is But I Can't Cook, and she says it is filled with down-home recipes she has perfected so they always turn out right. The Janice Holt and Henry Giles Foundation is now at work planning the next festival. Creative people from all over the region are invited to make contact toward being part of the special annual event.

Council rejects P&Z Commission recommendation on 503 Greensburg ST

Vote is 4-2 on issue which had generated so much controversy

But two other P&Z recommendations get unanimous approval

The Columbia City Council voted 4-2 to reject a Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation that a zone change for 503 Greensburg ST, Columbia, from from R-2 Low-Moderate Density Residential to C-1 Downtown Commercial be approved.

The action came in a brief but well-attended Special Called Meeting, Tuesday evening, October 18, 2005, at 6:00 p.m in Columbia City Hall.

Billy Walden, 46, dies after sports car flips over

An accident which occurred in Monroe County, KY, at 9:20 a.m., today, Tuesday October 18, 2005, took the life of the driver, Billy Walden, 46, Tompkinsville, KY.

Mr. Walden was drving a 2004 Nissan 350-Z, travelling west on KY 1366 three miles west of Tompkinsville.

Tax rates ok's; school gets certification JIT; recall tally ongoing

School taxes to Fiscal Court with barely an hour to spare

County taxing district's rates approved by Fiscal Court; mailings may start in matter of few days

Continuing Nickel Tax Recall count now up to 150 names validated of 744 needed

Large but unspecified number of recall signatures invalid because voters did not know precinct

It was close for the Adair County Board of Education, but certification of their non-recallable tax rates was sent at 7:12 a.m., this morning, Tuesday, October 18, 2005, to Renae Smith, who in turn notified Superintendent Darrell Treece. Mr. Treece called Judge Jerry Vaughan at his home at around 7:00 a.m. to let him know that the certification had been received.

Civil War sculpture of 1st Kentucky Cavalry dedication is Saturday, October 22

After months of work, dedication for the Civil War sculpture of the US 1st Kentucky Cavalry will be held this coming Saturday, October 22 in the Columbia City Cemetery. The sculpture will be easily visible from the intersection of Fairgrounds and Campbellsville Streets, however, driving to it requires going across town to enter the cemetery from Wall Street since the Campbellsville Street cemetery entrance is closed.

Republican Party meeting turns up more certain, maybe candidates

Some Republicans hope to avoid repeat of primary battle in sheriff's race, think emotions in primary hurt nominee in fall

Several new candidates can be added to the list who plan to run in 2006, it was learned at the Republican Party meeting, Monday evening, October 17, 2006, at the Adair County Courthouse Annex.

Candidates for county offices can file as early as November 9, 2005. Filing is then open until January 1, 2006.
