Columbia City Council regular October 3, 2005 meeting report

Council approves rezoning for annexation, approves P&Z recommendation to deny Tina Inez Graves' request to rezone 502 Burkesville commercial, and tables request for rezoning 503 Greensburg Street to make way for dry cleaners. Mayor Bell casts first tie breaking vote to sustain Skateboard Ordinance. City approves resolution which may result in fines for Charter Cable. Sue Stivers, Robert Flowers, Edgar Troutman, Billy Wheat re-appointed to boards. Gaddie-Shamrock gets paving bid. High Street to get No Parking signs. Carrie Bolin to get signs, stripes. Mayor announces receipt of grant money, PRIDE clean-up week. Joe Moore maintains tradition, moves adjournment. 39 minute meeting.

In tonight's Columbia City Council Meeting, the gallery was packed with standing room only. The large crowd was present almost entirely because of the City of Columbia Planning and Zoning's three recommendations. One recommendation was tabled, two were approved.

Tree heavily damages Robin Willis Hill's home



2005-10-03 - Jasper, Texas - Photo Hill family. A huge oak, downed by Hurricane Rita, heavily damaged the home of Robin Willis Hill in Jasper, Texas. Mrs. Hill is a native of Adair County and the daughter of Bob and Nancy Willis of Columbia, KY.

Obituary: Raymond Huddleston, 72, Korean War Veteran

Services will be held at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. for Raymond Huddleston who died Sunday after several years illness. A resident of the Cundiff Community, he was the son of the late Edd Lee and Alta Lloyd Huddleston. He was a member of the Melson Ridge Separate Baptist Church, a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, a farmer and was a grader operator for Adair County Road Department for several years. He was also an Adair County Road Commissioner.

Colby Pickett, 85, U.S. Air Force Veteran, businessman

Services are scheduled for Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home for Colby Pickett of Columbia. He passed away at his home after an illness on Sunday. He was a member of the Columbia Baptist Church, retired farmer, former owner of Pickett Shoe Store in Columbia and Russell Springs, and was a former partner in the Russell County Auto Parts. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

The Columbia City Council will consider a 11-item agenda tonight, which promises to be exciting.

The Council will consider the Planning and Zoning Boards recommendation to deny a rezoning change for property at the southwest corner of Burkesville ST and Frazier Avenue, but to allow the rezoning of the property on the west side of Greensburg ST at the northeast corner of Greensburg and Marshall Streets.
