Remembering Edgar Holmes, Jr.

2005-08-19 - Columbia, KY - Photo Patty Jones. The Green River Cowboys, Edgar Holmes, Jr.'s group, will lead the funeral procession on horseback in tribute to him. They will lead a riderless horse in his memory. The above photo of Junior was taken at the Foothills Festival in Albany, KY. The cowboys did a show there in 2003. The group remembers that he always played the sherrif in their Jessie James Gang reinactments because he was simply too kind hearted to be believable as a bad guy. His daughter Beth joined him in many of the shows they did. He was a highly skilled gunsmith as well as an excellent horseman. Junior was extremely devoted to his church and donated much of his time to it. Click 'read more' for his obituary.

COMMENT: Ann Heskamp Curtis sends thanks to Martha Barnes Martin

Jamestown Hill Reunion article evokes memories of growing up on Jamestown Street, where "summer was the best time when kids played outside till dark . . . "
Thanks so much to Martha Barnes Martin for her memories of Jamestown Street. How could she possibly remember all of those things? Or maybe it's better to ask, how could she ever forget?I never realized what a "new kid on the block" I was when we moved to our new house on Jamestown Street in 1949. The MILLERS lived next door and Susan and I, both being only children, became best friends. The BEARDS lived on the other side of us, and in the summer they sold wonderful plum jelly, made from the plums on the tree in their backyard.

COMMENT: Ben Breeding of Breeding sends comment from Seabrook, Texas

This comment follows the story Cyrus wrote about a link to a story on Dr. Steve Aaron's mammoth jacks. It was posted June 12, 2005. He writes:
The influence of the mammoth jack on Kentucky's mule-breeding industry could explain something I remember from the 1970's when I most recently lived in your fair commonwealth.
