''Holler party'' held at David Waltz farm Saturday It would have been called a block party had it been held in the city, but way out in rural Adair County it was called a "holler party" where everyone up and down the holler got invited. David Waltz, owner of Heart's Image Gallery, hosted the party and he was joined by members of his family and friends and neighbors. The holler in question is located on the G. City-county merger poll narrows a tiny bit The polling in the current ColumbiaMagazine.com poll has narrowed a bit. Fifty votes have now been cast. Thirteen voters say we should not consider merger, but an awesomely overwhelming majority of those expressing an opinion, 37, favor the consideration of merger. Feeding bears creates problems and may get you a ticket People have turned 75-pound yearling bear into a nuisance by feeding it Harlan, KY (May 16, 2005) -- Last year, visitors to Kingdom Come State Park in HarlanCounty thrilled to the sight of a female black bear and her five cubswandering through the picnic grounds. Visitors quickly learned that theycould attract bears into the open for photographs by leaving food on picnictables and throwing boxes of doughnuts in unsecured garbage cans. OLD HOUSE INQUIRY: Reader seeks information about her future Adair County home A reader buying a home in the Gradyville area is hoping some of us will be able to share history about the house. Her letter to ColumbiaMagazine.com follows: Hello, I am in the process of (hopefully) buying a house in the Gradyville community of Adair County. It's about 4 miles out (of Columbia) on the Edmonton Road. It sits off the road just past the bridge there. It's a big yellow (vinyl sided) 2 story house. We were told by the present owners (whose parents renovated it when they bought it in the 1980's) that it was built by a doctor back in the latter 1880's or 1890's, maybe the first teen's of 1900, even.
