Hazel H. Brown, 96

Services will be held Monday, May 23, 2005 at noon at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home for Hazel H. Brown. She passed away Friday at Westlake Regional Hospital after an illness.

She was the daughter of the late George and Sarah Campbell Harvey of Adair County and was the widow of Rev. J. O. Brown who preceded her in death in 1967. She was a member of the Columbia Church of the Nazarene and a homemaker.

Johanns announces availability of $5.9 million in RCD grants to foster economic

CASTLE ROCK, Wash., May 18, 2004 Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns announced today $5.9 million in economic development grants are available to assist in cooperative development ventures through establishing and operating cooperative development centers as part of the ongoing effort by the Bush Administration to increase economic opportunities in rural areas.

Cyrus sends report on heroism of Lt. Warren Shipp in WWII

The following appeared in the April 11, 1945 edition of the "Adair County News." Lt. Shipp was a son of William H. & Callie E. (Barbee) Shipp; a grandson of Sidney and Katie (Wolford) Barbee; and a great-grandson of Col. Frank Wolford. Lt. Shipp died in April, 2002, at age 80. Related ColumbiaMagazine.com story

Adair County in the wider world: Columbia serviceman assaulted in Indiana

According to a story in the New ALbany, IN, Tribune, Sgt. Neal Houglin of Columbia, KY, was assaulted by four men as he was walking east on I-64.

The story,"Police searching for four men in 1-64 assault," in the New Albany Tribune, says the incident took place near the 114 mile marker about the 114 mile marker.
