Locals learn about leadership at Berea College By Linda Waggener Almost every county around has a leadership program and now Adair will too, thanks to the Berea College Brushy Fork Leadership Institute which selected Columbia for its 2005 initiative. The opening sessions were held in Berea on September 16 through 18 with classes on campus and lodging in the historic Boone Tavern Hotel. Thirteen of the fifteen-member Adair County team traveled through pouring rain from the end of Hurricane Ivan to discover what the workshops had to offer our community. In attendance were: Stacey Bailey, Kelli Bonifer, Kaye Bowman, Sarah Durbin, Beverly England, Ben Evans, Charles Grimsley, Lee Ann Jessee, Joe Payne, Monica Rodgers, LeAnna Stone, Linda Waggener and Ellen Zornes. Charles K. Buescher, 76, World War II veteran Charles K. Buescher, 76, 3001 Russell Springs Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2004, at 8:45 p.m., at the Westlake Regional Hospital Emergency Room. Mr. Buescher was a Veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the local VFW Post 6097. The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at 1:00 p.m., at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Carlie Riggs officiating. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery with military honors by local VFW Post 6097. Westlake Health Fair is this Saturday The 2004 Westlake Regional Hospital Health Fair will be held this Saturday, October 16th with booths opening at 7 a.m. and events going on all morning. They offer hundreds of dollars in health screenings for only $12.00 (remember to fast after midnight before going in for the blood draw on Saturday morning). At the health fair there will be free services galore, plus concessions, a color television give-away, and much, much more. Willis seeks information about CGS Redhounds program 09/28/2004 Rollin McQueary, Campbellsville, KY, sends this information in answer to the question below: You wanted some basketball history. I didn't know if you had this information, Ralph McQueary was the junior high basketball coach 1963-65. Travis Paul Scott coached after that, but not sure how many years. Hubert Edwards coached from 1953-1963?, not sure of the last year. ROLLIN McQUEARY 09/27/2004 William L.
