ADAIR CO., KY - Tpr Clint Walker of Kentucky State Police 15, Columbia, KY, is investigating a collision that occurred Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at 5:44amCT at the intersection of KY 768 and KY 704.

Derrick Redmon,19, Columbia, KY, was operating a 2003 Dodge westbound on KY 768. Redmon fell asleep while approaching the intersection ran off the roadway and struck a house.

Velva Burton, age 47, of Columbia was operating a 1993 Mercury Southbound when she struck a 2000 GMC Pickup operated by Bobby Pelley, age 51, of Columbia, KY. also traveling Southbound.

Injury accident at Blue Ridge RD-KY 61, near Breeding, KY

Breeding Fire Department, Adair EMS assist KSP at the scene

ADAIR COUNTY, KY - Tpr. Tracy Haynes is investigating a collision that occurred Sunday evening, November 15, 2009, at 6:20pmCT, eight miles South of Columbia on KY 61.

Anthony B. Roach, age 38, of Louisville, KY was operating a 1981 Peterbilt. Roach had just pulled on N KY 61 from Blue Ridge Road, the left rear wheel of the trailer was slightly over the centerline in the Southbound lane.

Margaret S. Williams, age 70, of Albany, KY, was traveling South on KY 61 in a 2001 Oldsmobile, she struck the trailer wheel. Roach was wearing a seatbelt and not injured. Williams was also wearing a seatbelt, she was transported to Westlake Regional Hospital.

Tpr. Haynes was assisted at the scene by Adair County EMS and the Breeding Fire Department.

KSP arrests two Washington Co., KY deputies

Two face multiple charges related to drug trafficking. Post 15, Columbia, KY, takes part in action, along with KSP Drug Enforcement Unit, and Springfield, KY, Police Department.

On November 12, 2009 units from Kentucky State Police West Drug Enforcement, Kentucky State Police Drug Task Force, Kentucky State Police Post 15 - Columbia, Kentucky State Police Special Response Team, and Springfield Police Department conducted a covert drug trafficking operation involving two Washington County Sheriff's Deputies.

Arrested were Deputy Wayne Bartley, a 6 year veteran, and Deputy Billy Mattingly, a 3 year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff's Department. Both officers are charged with Official Misconduct, Trafficking in Marijuana, Theft by Unlawful Taking Over $300, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Criminal Mischief.

Both were lodged in the Marion County Detention Center.

To anonymously report any type of suspected illegal drug activity, citizens can call the KSP toll-free drug tip hotline, 1-800-DOPETIP. The hotline is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

COLUMBIA, KY - On Wednesday, November 11, 2009 units from Post 15 responded to a home invasion that occurred on Horan Lane in Marion County.

After identifying themselves as police officers, two male suspects wearing masks and carrying long guns forced their way into the residence of William Deering and Chasity Wright.

William Deering was assaulted, sustaining a minor injury and the suspects fled with an undetermined amount of cash.

COLUMBIA, KY - Post 15 is investigating a shooting that occurred on Rocky Hill Church Road in Monroe County in the afternoon of Sunday, November 8, 2009. Jose Alfredo Vera Hernandez (Hispanic male, age unknown) was flown to Vanderbilt University Hospital and was later released. The suspect is an unknown Hispanic male who goes by "Chopas" and is possibly operating a green Ford Explorer. If anyone has any information regarding this investigation please contact the Kentucky State Police, Post 15, Columbia, KY, at (270) 384-4796. Detective B.J. Burton is investigating.

Two year old child dies after Peddler's Mall accident, Campbellsville, KY

Campbellsville Police report that, according to witnesses, a two year old child, Alex Gonzalez of Liberty, KY, ran out of the Peddler's Mall in Campbellsville into the path of a 2002 Ford Windstar mini-van operated by Tammy Moore, 51, Greensburg, KY.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:30pmET/3:30CT, on Thursday, November 5, 2009.

Alex Gonzalez was transported to the Taylor Regional Hospital, Campbellsville, KY, where he was pronounced dead by Taylor County Coroner Terry Dabney. Moore was not injured.

he Campbellsville Police Department is continuing the investigation. No charges are pending. Officer Robert S. Gribbins is the investigating officers.

Besides the Campbellsville Police Department, agencies on the scene were CampbellsvilleTaylor County Rescue, Campbellsville Fire Department, and Taylor County Coroner Terry Dabney.

ADAIR CO. KY - Trooper Jamie Richard is investigating a collision that occurred Wednesday evening at 5:43pm 8 miles East of Columbia on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway.

Brittany N. Helton, age 20, of Somerset, KY was operating a 1979 Ford Bronco. She was parked in the East bound emergency lane and attempted to pull back on the roadway. Two passengers were in the Helton vehicle, Aaron Whittle, age 44 of Russell Springs, KY, and Shannon C. Norris, 1 yr old of Somerset, KY (child restraint).

KY has 12 traffic fatalities; 2 in KSP Post 15 area, in past week

Traffic deaths in Columbia, Campbellsville, are one-sixth of state's total

(FRANKFORT, KY) - Preliminary statistics* indicate that 12 people died in 12 separate crashes on Kentucky roadways from Monday, October 26 through Sunday, November 1, 2009.

Nine of the crashes involved motor vehicles and 3 of those victims were not wearing seat belts. Single-fatality crashes occurred in Breckinridge, Grant, Jefferson, Jessamine, Laurel, Logan, Ohio, Shelby and Taylor counties. The crashes in Jessamine and Ohio counties involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Marion County Sheriffs Department Deputy Tim Abell, age 48, of Lebanon,who was belted, was operating a 2007 Crown Vic Police Cruiser and was traveling Northbound on Ky 49 when he came around a curve and struck three horses which were in the roadway.

Fatality crash in Taylor Co. Oct. 31, 2009, at KY 1061 at KY 55

Accident occurred Saturday morning at Lone Valley/New Columbia RD intersection

Eighty year old Tommy Smothers of Campbellsville, KY, died in Louisville, KY, following a two vehicle collision on KY 55 at KY 1061, approximately 5 miles south of Campbellsville and 14 miles north of Columbia, KY, at 9:10amET/8:10amCT.

Mr. Smothers was flown to the University of Louisville for multiple injuries. A passenger in Smothers vehicle, Kalvin Mann, was transported to Taylor County Hospital for leg and arm injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, Robert Barnes, 46, Columbia, KY, was not injured.

Constable Office arrests 2 on Assault and Alcohol Charges

Lisa Wray, age 47 of Danville, KY was arrested Thursday night, October 29, 2009, at around 8:44pmCT. and were charged with DUI 1st Offense, Possession of Open Containers and Assault 4th Degree. Cindy Wray, Age 45 of Stanford, was also arrested and was charged with Alcohol Intoxication and Assault 4th Degree.

The arrest was made by Constable Jason Rector and assisted by Officer Jamie Cole of the Columbia Police Department.

Deer related accident, Metcalfe Co., KY results in injuries

  EDMONTON, KY - Collision occurred Sunday evening, October 25, 2009, 7 miles South of Edmonton on KY 163 at 6:07pmCT.

Justin Stilz, age 18 of Edmonton was traveling South on KY 163 in a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse when he swerved to miss a deer, lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway, and struck several trees.  William Rucker, age 20 of Edmonton was a passenger in the vehicle.  Stilz and Rucker were not wearing seat belts. Both were treated at TJ Samson Hospital in Glasgow, KY.

  Tpr. Daniel Stephens of KY State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, is investigating the collision.  Barren/Metcalfe County EMS and the Summershade Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Overcorrection factor in Lebanon, KY crash

MARION CO., KY - A collision occurred at 9:15pm on Friday, October 23, 2009, on Danville Highway, 3 Miles east of Lebanon, KY. Briana Cooper, who was belted, age 17 of Gravel Switch, was operating a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am when she fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the roadway. Ms. Cooper then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to flip and strike a fence. Ms. Cooper was treated and released from Springview Hospital. Trooper John Adams of Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, investigated the collision.

Trooper Ricky Brooks of KSP Post 15, Columbia, KY is investigating a fatal collision that occurred today, Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at approximately 2:30pmCT.

Patricia L Lucas, 34, of Hestand, KY, was operating a 2004 Chevy Silverado westbound on KY Highway 216. Lucas ran off the shoulder of the roadway, struck a culvert, and overturned. Lucas was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision by the Monroe County Coroner.

Officers with the Columbia Police Department arrested a Columbia man on drug charges Friday afternoon, October 16, 2009. at 4:45pmCT, following a traffic stop.

Officer Gary Roy and Sergeant Jason Cross charged Waylon D. Bradshaw, 26, Columbia, KY, with possession of a controlled substance first degree methamphetamine, trafficking in marijuana less than 8 ounces, four counts of possession of a controlled substance second degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

RUSSELL CO., KY - A collision occurred this morning, Monday, October 12, 2009 at 10:45amCT, .5 mile North of Eli on KY 76.

Brently R Frost, age 17, of Russell Springs, KY was operating a 2003 Ford Focus when he lost control in a curve, ran off roadway and struck a tree.

He was flown from the scene to U.K Medical Center in Lexington, KY.
A passenger, Travis R Popplewell, age 17 of Russell Springs was pronounced dead at the scene by the Russell County Coroner.

Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt. The collision is being investigated by TPR John Barnett.

Driver airlifted to UL after E. Guardian ST, Columbia, KY, crash

The Columbia Police responded to an injury accident on East Guardian Street in Columbia, KY, at approximatley 11:20amCT on Tuesday, October 6, 2009.

The accident occurred when Pam Lawless, 48, Liberty, KY, was operating a 1989 Ford Econoline Van and was traveling west on Guardian Street when she lost control of her vehicle and struck a tree.

Lawless was transorted by Adair EMS to Westlake regional Hospital and then on to the University of Louisville. A passenger in the vehicle, Sierra Virtue, 14, was also transported to Westlake Regional Hospital by Adair County EMS, where she was admitted.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The passenger was belted.

The accident was investigated by Columbia Police Officer Jason Cross, who was assisted by CPD Chief Mark Harris.
