Artists open house at Highland Raku Studios Dec. 5-6, 2009

Seven artists' works on dispaly December 5-6, 2009

Highland Raku Studio will hold Artists' Open House on Saturday, December 5, from 10am-4pmCT, and on Sunday, December 6, 2009, from 1pm-4pmCT at 7917 Burkesville RD, Columbia, KY. The phone number is (270) 378-5421.

Refreshments will be served.

Ted Vogelsburg, Sparksville blacksmith artist, will have a display.

Steve Scherer will have a miniature glass sculpture demonstration, Saturday.

Donnie Perry will display examples of his wheel thrown pottery and give a demonstration on Saturday.

COLUMBIA, KY - Gerald L. Chafin hoped putting famous poems to music would be successful. He didn't expect it to result in a repeat performance.

But on November 22, 2009, the Lindsey Wilson choral ensembles will reprise their recent performance of "The Poets Sing: Musical Settings of Distinguished Poems." The performance will be 7pmCT, Sunday, November 22, 2009, at Columbia Baptist Church, 201 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY. The concert is free and open to the public.

COLUMBIA, KY- A children's play isn't just for children.

In the mind of Lindsey Wilson College Associate Professor of Communication Susan Minton, the story of Cinderella is a timeless escape for adults and children alike "from what might be a bad day."

Students in Minton's theater classes will perform Cinderella 7 p.m. CT Thursday, Nov. 19, in Lindsey Wilson College's V. P. Henry Auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public and comes comes after two days of performing it for area school children.

Laura Atkinson, operatic tour guide and MTV rebel is featured artist at free concert at Slider Humanities Center, Columbia, KY

COLUMBIA, KY - Call her Laura Atkinson, operatic tour guide and MTV rebel.

The Yale-trained mezzo-soprano plans to take her listeners on an operatic journey around the world Friday night at Lindsey Wilson College.

She will perform 7pmCT, Friday, November 20, 2009, in the Lindsey Wilson W.W. Slider Humanities Center Recital Hall, 155 Blue Raider, Columbia, KY. The recital is free and open to the public. It is part of the 2009-10 Lindsey Wilson Cultural Affairs Series.

Glasgow Musicale will present American Railroad Music

Glasgow Musicale, will present a special concert, American Railroad Music on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 2:00pmCT, at First Presbyterian Church, 200 East Washington Street, Glasgow, KY. Members, guests and all music lovers are invited to attend this free concert presented by Dr. Janet Bass Smith. Dr. Smith is a highly acclaimed concert pianist and recording artist. She is founding member and past president of the Board of Directors of Orchestra Kentucky in Bowling Green and is a Mammoth Cave guide.

A near-capacity crowd attended the Lindsey Wilson Choral Ensembles' performance of "The Poet Sings: Musical Settings of Distinguished" Monday evening at Columbia Baptist Church.

Under the direction of LWC Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Programs Gerald L. Chafin, the 30-member Lindsey Wilson Concert Choir and 33-member Lindsey Wilson Singers performed 10 poems set to music. The members of the choir Lindsey Wilson College Singers are:

LWC Choral Ensembles deliver outstanding performance

"The evening was a totally awesome experience for those who attended, and the only disappointing aspect of the performance was its brevity. It was so long coming and too soon finished."

Dr. Gerald Chafin has brought the Lindsey Wilson Choral Ensembles to a new high.

This writer had the most enjoyable experience on Monday evening that could possibly have been had in Columbia. The location was The Columbia Baptist Church and the occasion was the fall recital which was expertly presented by the LWC Choral concert choir and the Lindsey Wilson Singers.

CU will host exhibit for Adair artists Henrietta and Jeff Scott

Works of the popular Adair County artists are inspired by a strong interest in Art Nouveau and the American Art and Craft Movement

Campbellsville University will host an art exhibit featuring numerous works of art by Adair Countians Jeffery and Henrietta Scott from November 16 to December 10, 2009, at the CU Art Gallery located at 205 Unviersity Drive, Campbellsville, KY The gallery is open from 8am-5pmET/7am-4pmCT. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The opening of the exhibit is scheduled from 6-7:30pmCT. on Monday, November 16, 2009. Refreshments will be served and you can visit with Jeff and Henrietta.

The Scotts have both been teaching for over 30 years. Henrietta Scott has been teaching art all throughout her teaching career, which began in the Adair County school system, where Jeffery Scott was a teacher and principal.

French Horn Duo gave spectacular performance

WOW! This was indeed a spectacular performance. From our perspective, it was probably the best of the LWC Slider performances we have attended. We truly enjoyed the whole evening. The ending piece, "Take the A Train" by Strayhorn, was the icing on the cake, but all of it was great.

Front Porch Pickin' Coming to Columbia

Country music fans have something exciting to look forward to in November. On Thursday, November 19, the stars of Renfro Valley will be bringing their acclaimed, high energy, family friendly "Front Porch Pickin" show to Columbia. The show will take place on the Lindsey Wilson College campus in the new Hodge Discipleship Center, 402 Helen Flatt DR, Columbia, KY, at 7:00pmCT.

"Front Porch Pickin" has been performed for thousands of fans throughout the eastern half of the United States. The show features six multitalented performers each providing their own special musical style. During the first part of the show, the performers will sing a variety popular country songs mixed with their own compositions.
