Adair Republicans to meet Monday, Nov. 16, 2009

The Adair County Republican Party will have their regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 16, 2009, 6:00pmCT in the basement of the Adair County Annex Building, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY.

There are several items on the agenda including:

Adair County Clerk Sheila Blair will give local 2010 election updates and information regarding running for office, absentee voting, and voter registration. She will also be answering any questions regarding these subjects.

Vote will be December 15, 2009 on tax for school buildings

The vote on the tax which will enable the Adair County School District to leverage Adair County tax dollars to build several new buildings and renovate others, will be on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. The final certification of the tax recall petition was completed November 3, and the School Board and Petition filers were both notified on November 4, 2009. Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Blair said.

The law states that the election can be no earlier than 35 days nor more than 45 days after the petition is certified," Clerk Blair said. "And it also states that the election must be on a Tuesday. Since December 15, 2009, is the only day fitting those requirements, that is when the election will be held."

Elections 2010: Candidate filing starts Wed., Nov. 4, 2009

Observers expect a bumper crop of candidates for the open offices in Adair County

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 4, 2009, is the first day for candidates in the 2010 Elections to file for office. The deadline for filing for offices which are subject to the May18, 2010 primary, is 4pmCT, January 26, 2010.

All county offices and all city offices are open this year. School board members for District 1 and District 3 are on the ballot, as are candidates of the Soil Conservation District.

Michael Burton has filed letter of intent to run for Adair sheriff

Former Adair County Deputy Sheriff Michael Burton writes, "This is a letter to inform all media that I have officially filed my letter of intent as of July 1st 2009 with the Kentucky Registry Of Election to run for the Republican candidate for the office of Adair County Sheriff for the 2010 elections. 2010 Primary Election Filer No.207180. Thank you. Michael Burton"

The primary election is May 18, 2010. Primary election day in Kentucky is the first Tuesday after the third Monday in May. Polls are open 6:00am to 6:00pmCT on election day. Candidates required to run in the May 18, 2010 primary election have until 4:00pmCT, January 26, 2010, to file nomination papers. Adair County, KY, has no scheduled elections in 2009.

State Republican Party Chairman at Annex tonight

Steve Robertson, Chairman of the Republican Party of Kentucky will be in attendance tonight, Monday, April 20, 2009 at 6:30pmCT, at the regular monthly meeting of the Adair County Republican Party. The event will be held in the basement of the Annex Building, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY.

Mr. Robertson will share about the current standing of the state party, and the outlook of future statewide elections. He will also be available to answer questions. This will be an excellent chance to meet the state party chairman and discuss how to build the party here and across the Commonwealth.

The Adair County Republican Party meets at 6:30pmCT the third Monday of every month in the Annex basement. All interested Adair Countians are encouraged to attend.

State legislators to address Adair Co. Republican Party

State Senator Vernie McGaha (R-Russell Springs) and State Representative John "Bam" Carney (R-Campbellsville), Adair County's representation in the state legislature, are scheduled to address the Adair County Republican Party at their regular monthly meeting.

The event will be held on Monday, March 16, 2009, at 6:00pmCT in the basement of the Annex Building. Both men will speak and answer questions concerning recent legislation considered by the Kentucky General Assembly. All interested Adair Countians are strongly encouraged to attend this very important event.

Adair County Republicans met in regular session Monday night, February 23, to set a new agenda for the county party. Several Republican party members, and elected officials were in attendance for the first meeting of the new election cycle.

Adair Co.poll locations, officers, Nov. 4, 2008 general election

Adair County voters will be voting in 16 different precincts, but will go to only 12 locations. The polls are open Tuesday, November 4, 2008, from 6:00am until 6:00pm for the general election.

Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Blair has issued the the new list of officers and polling locations.Two precincts each vote in four of the locations.

Bam Carney meet and greet this evening in childhood community

Republican 51st District Candidate John BAM Carney will be holding a meet and greet session at the former Knifley Grade Center in his childhood community. Carney will be at the Olde Town Cafe today, Monday, November 3, 2008, at 5:30pmCT. Carney has a large number of relatives who live in the Knifley area. He was born a short distance away on Wilson Creek Road in Taylor County, but attended Knifley Grade Center while living in the Feathersburg area of Adair County.

"I don't care who you vote for - vote!" said Dr. Wendy Benningfield, associate professor of history at Campbellsville University, during the Kentucky Heartland Institute on Public Policy (KHIPP) sponsored forum at CU Thursday, Oct. 23.

"This is a historic election. An African-American is running for president, and for only the second time a female could be vice president," Benningfield said. "Vote for who will impact you."

Sen. McConnell to speak in Columbia, KY on Mon., Oct. 20, 2008

United States Senator Mitch McConnell will visit and speak in Columbia, KY, at 1:00pmCT, on Monday, October 20, 2008.

Senator McConnell will be here as part of his re-election campaign's motorcade through South Central Kentucky.

McConnell, the Republican nominee, is Kentucky's senior Senator and the minority leader of the United States Senate.

McConnell faces Democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford in the Tuesday, November 4, 2008 general election.

Absentee voting machine open in Adair Annex

Qualified Adair County voters who will not be in Adair County on election day, Tuesday, November 4, 2008, can vote on the absentee voting machine in the office of Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Blair in the Courthouse Annex, Public Square, Columbia, KY.

The office will be open regular hours, 8:00am to 4:00pmCT, Mondays through Fridays, except for early closing for Downtown Days Friday, October 10, 2008, when the office closes at two.

Additional hours will be available on the three Saturdays preceding the election: October 18, 25, and November 1, when the office will be open from 8:30 to 12noonCT. The phone number is (270) 384-2801.
