Adair Project Development Board meets Tuesday, Aug. 29

The Adair County Justice Center Project Development Board (PDB) held its regular monthly meeting at 5:00pm, today, Tuesday, August 29, 2006, in the Adair Annex Basement on the Square in Columbia, KY.

Items on the agenda included the following: 1) Roll Call 2) Approval of Minutes 3) Report of Financial Advisors Ross, Sinclaire 4) DLZ Kentucky, Architects Report 5) Old Business, 6) New Business 7) Set next meeting date, and 8) Adjourn.

PDB Board Member Roger Stephens informed ColumbiaMagazine.com that the final lot for the site has been signed, sealed and delivered. The deed for the Adair Muffler Shop is now held by the County.

Three car crash on Jamestown Street results in injury to one

Columbia City Police investigated a three car accident on Jamestown ST, Columbia, KY at 16:15 p.m., Tuesday afternoon, April 18, 2006.

The accident resulted in an Adair County woman being transported to Westlake Hospital for treatment.

P&Z OKs changes for Cleaners; Building Ctr. request withdrawn


CLARIFICATION, MARCH 20, 2006. City Clerk Carolyn Edwards has notified us that the Planning & Zoning Commission did not act on Don Franklin's request for a change to C-2 Highway Oriented Commercial zoning for his property at the corner of Bomar Heights and Burkesville ST. That will be taken up at a later meeting, she said.

Don Franklin's office complex moves ahead at P&Z hearing; he voluntarily withdraws application for zone change for building supply center on Jamestown ST after neighbors object. But Dr. Roger Smith writes P&Z that the Dry Cleaners will open at 503 Greensburg ST regardless of P&Z, Council action. P&Z member, justifying vote: "There is going to be a dry cleaners, come hell or high water." P&Z recommends zone change for proposed dry cleaning business."

In last night's P&Z hearing, Don Franklin, owner of a 2.22 acre lot on Jamestown ST, voluntarily withdrew his application for a zone change to establish a building supply center there after neighboring property owners appeared opposing the construction or registering concerns.

Columbia Utilities Commission can be reached over New Year's holiday

Commission office to be closed, but assigned personnel on-call 24/7; CUC posts phone numbers

The Columbia Utilities Commission office will be closed over the New Year's holiday, but on-call personnel are available in cases of emergencies, according to Columbia Utilities Director Jim Williams.

The on-call service is available 24-hours a day.

Columbia City Council regular meeting: Tuesday, September 6, 2005

Council takes action on skateboarding, planning and zoning, 2005 tax rate, and hears from Industrial Recruiter. Approves joint application for $175,000 grant for Commerce Park. Takes no action on request to lift ban on High Street parking. Dinner will honor retiring Police Officer of 26 years, Richard Butler. Joe Moore tradition maintained.
In Tuesday night's Columbia City Council meeting, an ordinance regulating the riding and operation skateboards, roller skates, roller blades and coasters was approved.

The action was taken at the regular September 6, 2005 Councilman, gaveled to order by Mayor Patrick R. Bell, at 6:00 p.m., with all six Council Members, Larry Marshall, Joe Moore, Charles Grimsley, Craig Dean, Edwin Taylor, and June Parsons in attendance.

Marsha Walker appeared at the Columbia City Council meeting Monday night, August 1, 2005, to request the reopening of the road through the Columbia City Cemetery.

Mrs. Walker said that her request is on behalf of her mother, Louise Brock. "Mom has lived on Wall Street since 1966, and in all that time, until recently, the road through the cemetery was open."

Columbia, Adair scheduled to get $75,000 in PRIDE grants


New trash cans for Columbia, clean-up on Mt. Tussel and Joe Conover Roads provided for in allocations
Adair County is expected to receive a PRIDE grant of $50,000 and Columbia one for $25,000 at the PRIDE board meeting at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset tomorrow, starting at 10:00 a.m., Eastern, Wednesday, July 13, 2005.

Adair Countan Arvist Sinclair, Columbia, is a member of the board of directors of PRIDE, and will be present for the meeting.
