Remnants for cleaning and repair at Rosenwald School

2019-09-10 - Southern Adair County, Flatwoods, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
These remnants from the past are among those slated for cleaning and repair at Adair County's only Rosenwald School still standing. Historical notes provided by Vonnie Kolbenschlag include, "...began as a one room log cabin, produced more African American teachers than any other one room school; 20 public school teachers from Flatwoods. The school was always in session, no matter the weather. Wood was furnished by the community, warm clothes were hard to come by, parents worked for five cents a day on nearby farms..." This and more information is pinned to the walls of the interior which is scheduled to be restored and/or protected by volunteers on Saturday, September 21, 2019.
