Remembering Mayor Pat Bell 2019-01-26 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo archive photo composition by Ed Waggener. Mayor Pat Bell, left, updated the look of City Hall. In the top center is the building as it looked before. The bottom panel is an architect's drawing of what the building would look like when finished in about a year. The old concrete screen was removed, and columns were to be added. The offset at right showed the new Columbia Police Headquarters and to carry the City of Columbia "C with Joe Moore Clocktower" logo. The addition was being built on land where the famed "Better Burgers" Wethington Pool Room once stood. The cost of the contract for the renovation was said to be $1,125,000. Mayor Bell's aim for the building was to have it complement the new Adair Justice Center, a $10 million plus structure diagonally across the Campbellsville/Merchant/Reed Streets intersection. The snowball bush, upper right, should be unaffected by the work, much to the relief of business neighbors.
