First responders at mid-day collision at Bypass & Burkesville

2018-09-04 - Adair County Veterans Memorial Bypass & Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Columbia Police Chief Jason Cross, foreground, with Columbia Fire Department Chief Mike Glasgow, right, and Columbia/Adair County Fire Department Public Information Officer Donald Hare, left, have eyes east as an Air Evac helicopter prepares to take off from the scene of the second collision in five days at the crossing. A front end loader was being used to remove debris from the scene. At right, cab directed north on Burkesville Street, is one of the vehicles involved in the crash, a propane gas hauler. Adair County Judge Executive Mike Stephens, demanding immediate action at the intersection, from a four-way stop to shutting the road down entirely, says he was told there was need for more study. He responded, he said, by telling the individual, "The time for study is long past. When it takes a front end loader to remove a vehicle, the time to study is long over." His sentiment is resonating throughout the community. - EW
