Wendy & Bob Burt taking their 'baby' home from FM2 - 21 Jul 2018

2018-07-21 - FM2 at Municipal Parking Lot, Campbellsville & Merchant Streets, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Wendy and Bob Burt received their 'baby' - above cradled in Bob's loving arms, sans receiving blanky - for it trip home. The baby's surrogate parent, Darrell Bunnell of Coview farms, raised the incredible specimen and delivered it at FM2 today. What you see is the result of an Armenian Cucumber/Best-Tasting-Canteloupe dalliance at Coview Farms. Wendy Burt had given seeds for both vegetables to grower Bunnell, and somehow there was cross pollination, which looks like an incredibly large banana cantaloupe, favored by so many. The Burts were impressed with its heft and handsome appearance, but wondered about the flavor. Darrell Bunnell gave them the bad news. "It's bland," he reported. "In fact it doesn't taste like much at all." Wendy Burt is taking it well," now prefacing the introduction of the mishap as "this is the last time I'll ever be involved in saving seed." For once, "Wendy Bird" does not know, as her tee proclaims, "That's what I do. I Watch Birds and I Know Things." Surely someone in the CM audience has a delicious recipe around for Armena-cuk-a-loupe. There's way too much product to allow it to go to waste.
