Scenic Adair Co., KY: Falls of Sapp Creek

2017-07-19 - Seen from Barnetts Creek Rd Bridge over Sapp Creek, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com(c).
It can only be almost seen from the bridge - much like that second bear the the Adair Countian reported seeing on his visit to the Great Smoky Mountains, but all truly born again Adair Countians know by heart - but on the authority of Bill Aldridge, there is a charming little waterfalls as the stream, above, flows out of the top of the picture, toward it's manifest destiny of joining might Barnett's Creek beyond. Bill Aldridge assures us that there are many sightseeing worthy waterfalls, maybe with as many as four feet of drop, in the area. The water is as clear as it gets in Adair County, but caveats from BJ Hagy, who warns not to drink the water and to eschew encounters with serpents of the copperhead and rattlesnake types - and wonders if there might not be cottonmouths - from the safety of his new New Hampshire home far, far from his upbringing in Kentucky. As for the water warning, he says he wouldn't drink it now, and for sure he wouldn't have drunk it when he as a lad. - EW. This photo is added today to the story & photo(s) linked via Read More, about the opening day for the new Barnett's Creek Bridge. - EW
