Walmart Training Academy opens to the public next week

2017-01-12 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
This is a picture of New Columbia, a term being used for the developments along the newest exit from the LBN Cumberland Parkway. In announcing the newest development there, the Walmart Training Academy at 2988 Burkesville Road, it seems a good time to view the store and all that has been added since it opened 11 years ago. This photo is a view from the home of Kenneth and Ernestine Bennett looking at the Parkway exits, right to Somerset and left to Bowling Green, and the developments around them. Notable landmarks on the left side of Burkesville Road include: Miss Vicky's Pampered Angus Ranch, Pinewood Shopping Center under construction, the original Walker family home, and John and Fay Blakey's store. Across Burkesville Road on the right side of the photo are Bluegrass Cellular, the newly opened Sleep Inn, Goodwill, the new Franklin appliance building under construction, Burger King, Five Star and Hardees, all surrounding the entrance to Columbia's large Walmart store with its training center addition built on the back side. At far right is the Columbia/Adair County Utilities million gallon water tower and the LBN Cumberland Parkway heading east toward Columbia's first parkway exit at the KSP Post 15 location. The Columbia Walmart Training Academy will enhance the local economy by bringing approximately 90 Kentucky Walmart employees here each week for the five-day training sessions.
