The community is still reeling from the bombshell announcement at last night's Adair County School Board when Superintendent Alan Reed announced his retirement effective December 31, 2016. While most of the school staff and teachers were aware it was likely to happen, for many in the audience, press corps, and general public were caught completely off guard. With him, right, above, is Board Chairman Floyd Burton, who has been a stalwart supporter of the programs Supt. Reed used to get results, helping students formerly left behind find a place in the school and graduate ready to go to college and/or have a good paying career, and significantly lower the cost of getting a college education along with it. Mr. Burton was defeated in his bid for re-election. - Ed Waggener
