Papaw trees along Burkesville bearing fruit 2015-08-31 - Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. A number of papaw trees are growing along the sidewalk on Burkesville Street, south of Guardian. This small one had landed along the retaining wall by Downey Eye Clinic, on Friday, August 28, 2015. By Sunday, several larger ones had fallen, most cushioned by the grass, but a few had splattered on the sidewalk. Maybe there are more of the trees in Columbia than most of us realized. Maybe we need the urban tree inventory suggested a few years back by retired forester Billy Joe Fudge. - EW Permalink | Comments?
