Dr. Kessler speaks at Homeplace/Tebb's Bend trail celebration

Dr. Ritchie Kessler, Kentucky Heritage Land Conservation Fund Board, spoke to those attending the dedication of the five mile trail system at Homeplace on Green River and the Tebbs Bend/Green River Nature Area Tuesday morning at Homeplace. Kessler, who was involved in the very early days of Homeplace and remains active at "Kentucky's Outdoor Classroom" reminded the crowd of about 50 of the history and significance of the farm. He told them that "this little piece of Heaven" was not there by chance and that many had been involved in its development. Kessler said it was only a five minute drive from Campbellsville (and 15 minutes from Columbia) and a place where we could get way from the daily trials of our lives. Kessler also spoke of the importance of places like Homeplace on Green River in preserving the plant and animal life that sustains us as human beings. In addition to Kessler, a number of local leaders including local Kentucky legislator Bam Carney, Taylor County Judge Eddie Rogers, Campbellsville Mayor Tony Young and local historian and Homeplace board member Betty Jane Gorin attended and spoke at the gathering as did the local government coordinator from the Governor's Office, Jodi Williams. The trail system traverses woodlands, fields of native grasses and plants, wetlands and borders on streams and the Green River. It is reserved for walking only, and no vehicles or horses are allowed on the trails. -George Kolbenschlag
