(Ad) Darrel Baker, for Adair County Jailer

2014-10-22 - Columbia, KY - Photo Campaign photo.

Hello, my name is Darrel Baker, candidate for Adair County Jailer

I want to be your next Jailer. I was born in Adair County and I'm a lifetime resident (except for about 16 years when I lived in Louisville where I had to go as many of us did back then, to get a job. Worked at Jeffboat. And I was a city truck driver in the area.)

On June 11, 1982, Gayla Neat Baker - a "neat Baker" she says - and I bought the store at Knifley and ran it for 32 years. We've been married for 48 years, and have 2 daughters, Beverly Renee' Goodin (Ronnie) and Pamela S. Morgan. Pamela has two children, Emily Jo Baker-King, a sophomore at UL, and Samuel Taylor "Pudge" Morgan, a junior at Glasgow High School, the catcher on the the Scotties baseball team.

The reason I am running for Jailer is I feel there is a need for someone with life experiences in the office. Mine will help in managing the jail, I feel. I know how to handle situations with authority, with lessons I learned as a referee and umpire 27 years, the 32 years I spent in the store taught me how to handle business, and - as everyone who has ever driven a school bus knows, I learned to deal with people in ways which will stand one in good stead in any situation!

I believe in education. I will take every available course I possibly can, as all newly elected jailers will be doing. Even though I would not trade the wonderful life experiences I've had, I know the importance of the great training available in area of corrections.

I am a member Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Department, I was a member of the Adair County Water Board, and Gayla and I attend the Knifley Brethren in Christ Church and others in the area.

Please vote for me in the Tuesday, November 4, 2014, election.

Darrel Baker

Paid for the candidate, Darrel Baker
