Flooding: Little Barren at 18 Feet

2010-05-06 - Sulphur Well, KY - Photo by Becky Jessie. Water was 18 feet above the Little Barren at Sulphur Well!
If by chance you wondered how high water in Little Barren River was on May 1, 2010, just check out this photo. The bottom of that bridge is 18 feet above the river bed! You can take that as fact, because Cora Emma and Junior Jessie, of Sulphur Well, just made a trip to the river with a 100 ft. tape measure and checked it, especially for this publication. Somebody had to get wet doing that. What heros! Another photo in the group showed that the water had climbed several more inches and was almost ready to run over onto the bridge floor before it was through. Pictured in the photo is Brandon Shirley, a Metcalfe County CPA, standing on next to nothing, while watching the swiftly moving current. One thing about it, the boy is bound to be steady on his feet! There is no word yet on estimated damage to Metcalfe County from the recent storm.
