Paying homage to a famed Adair County author

2010-03-12 - Columbia Cemetery, 315 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Ed Benningfield of the Mt. Carmel community of Adair County is an avid fan of Columbia author Capwell Wyckoff. Yesterday, Benningfield found the memorial, with its well known inscription, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." The author was also pastor of the Columbia and Union Presbyterian churches while in Adair County. His boys adventure series about the Mercer Boys have long been among the most popular of the genre. Benningfield had been wanting to visit the gravesite and, luckily happened by the office of Adair County PVA Willie Matt Feese, Jr., where Deputy Elaine Bennett was able to do what Sue Stivers of the Columbia-Adair County Tourism wants every Adair Countian to do, answer questions about directions to Adair County sites or be able to send the individual to the person who knows. Bennett directed Mr. Benningfield to an information source one step away from his quest. The gravesite is close to the Wall Street entrance to the cemetery, a few dozen yards, on the right, down the second passage on the right after entering the Cemetery.
