Versailles Castle/Martin Castle

2009-10-16 - Versailles - Photo by Lawrence Hamilton. Lawrence writes, "What a sight to come into the flatter part of Kentucky and find a castle. You almost think that you have traveled back in time. It's a beautiful setting in the heart of horse country, Versailles, Kentucky." Wikipedia says, about the castle, "Construction on the castle was started by Rex Martin and his wife Caroline Bogaert Martin in 1969, after they had returned from a trip to Europe and were inspired by the architecture and many famous buildings they had seen."If you go: It's about 95 miles starting from the Adair County Courthouse at Columbia, KY. Take KY 55 to Springfield, KY, continue straight on KY 555/Triple 5 highway to Bluegrass Parkway, then East to Lexington RD, Versailles and east a short distance watching for the castle on the north side of Lexington Road.
