Historic Adair Co., KY: Late 1700s log building, Dohoney Farm

2009-09-23 - Dohoney Farm, Adair Co. KY - Photo by Dan Antle. One of oldest structures in Adair County. In fact, it is believed to have been built as much as 22 years before Adair County became a county in 1802. The log building was located on the Lynn McLean and Jean McLean farm on Frank Dohoney Road, just Southeast of Exit 46 on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway. "This is one of the oldest structures in the county and Bruce Held thinks based upon the construction of the logs would be in the 1780 to 1790's range," Dan Antle writes. Mr. Antle said family memories are that this may have been a residence in the time when the land was part of Green County. Over the years, it has been used as a farm storage barn, most recently, he said, as a corn crib. The structure has been moved and will be fully restored by Richard Phelps on his farm south of Columbia, KY, located on what was, in ancient times, the Greasy Creek Pike, the main throughfare to the Cumberland River from Columbia in a time when most merchandise for Adair County arrived by riverboat from Nashville, and was also the location, near the Roadside Park, of the famous Open the Gate, Conover incident.
