Save the Courthouse Tour: To the Harry Potter Room

2009-08-02 - 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo By Linda Waggener.
A 'Harry Potter' mystery unfolded on the third floor landing of the courthouse as the photos above show. The crowd had gotten smaller on each landing and this was the point where only the brave at heart continued. Top left Adair County Pubic Library Director Lee Ann Jessee slowly turned the know to enter one large room filled with dust covered, ages-old books around the walls and in piles on the floor. A narrow staircase on the opposite wall from the windows led up to a three-foot tall door just below the ceiling. Ellen Zornes, chair of the fundraising committee, stands at the top of the stairs, ready to enter. Or not. There was much discussion and thought as people went up the stairs, looked in the little door and came back down the stairs again. Far right, Ernestine Bennett, Genealogy Librian, posed at the entrance to the final leg of the journey to the clock tower. Looking inside the door, another staircase on the far wall, accessed through the booklined walkway, led to the courthouse clock.
