Jennifer Crawhorn: Why now is called the present

Picture Essay: Years go by - Why now is called the present.

By Jennifer Crawhorn

I came across this picture of my son. And while he's now 10 years old now, it brought back so many memories I just had to share it. He is at his Granny and Papas' playing hide and go seek. He loved peeking around the corner at me. He's about 10 months old here. But I thought this picture was extra special because not far from him setting on the table is a picture of him when he was only 3 days old and still in the hospital.

I have to admit it did bring a few tears to my eyes. Because it reminded me of how far he has come. But it also made me wish I could put him in a bubble and keep him young forever, because I realized that in another 10 years he'll be grown and I'll no longer be tucking him in and kissing him good night. I won't be able to get up in the middle of the night just to check on him and make sure he's still breathing and isn't too warm or cold.

But you can't hold back the hands of time. And that's what children do. They grow up and become parents. Parents grow old and become grandparents, and grandparents pass on. We are not promised tomorrow, but we do have today, and we should cherish it because it's a gift: That's why it's called the present.
