1st block out of Great Wall of Columbia at 7:38amCT, 7-7-09

2009-07-07 - 116 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Mayor Bell said the trumpets might sound and the Great Wall of Columbia would start coming down at 6:00amCT, Tuesday, July 7, 2009, but the first block didn't come out until 7:38amCT. Atop the scaffolding are Gary Drury and Mike Drury of Bardstown. Handing tear down tools to them, on the outside of the scaffold is Bill Glover, of Mt. Washington, KY. All three are with the general contractor, BCD Construction Co. of Bardstown, Ky. Graham Waggener likened the screen to a bank of post office boxes when he saw it Sunday. If anyone has the patience and could count the rows of pigeonholes and get a count per panel, anda grand total, that would be a good figure to know, especially of all Adair County High School students who tooK World History under Reedie Tucker and remember the lessons she taught about the exact measurements of one of the Great Pyramids. It would be a good number for those of us with perpetual nine year old minds to know. Might impress the Canadian tourists, as well. -ED WAGGENER
