New LED lights at Bloody Crossing, KY 439 at CWB

2009-07-05 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.

Less than three days after the Kentucky Department of Highways installed blinking LED lights around the slow and stop signs at the intersection of KY 439 and the Columbia Western Bypass, another collision occurred. The left panel, above, shows the approach to the intersection from the south. The LED lights are installed on both the right hand side yellow Slow caution sign, and the red stop sign. The right panel is a a closeup of one of the yellow Slow caution signs. There are eight intermittent red LED lights embedded in the black diamond shaped border, visible as rivet-sized holes in the lights' off mode. At night, the lights are very evident. In the daytime, much less so, though it depends on the time of day as to how attention getting any of the warnings are.
