ADAIR COUNTIAN LANCE BEAN back in the U.S.A. after a year working for a private contractor on water and wasterwater projects in Djibouti, Africa, shows off two of his prized handmade, stag handle hunting knives. His knives have been sold in several states, including Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and Mississippi, and California. Most of them sell for $100 up. Production is pretty steady. "I try to make five or six a year," he says. He sticks to straight knives, he says. "Pocket knives have littler parts," he said. "It's too tedious." The blades on his knives are razor sharp. Since being back here he divides his time between his property at Jericho near Green River Lake, and Cincinnati. "The best thing about being back here is the all the green and the fresh smell of the air," adding, "the pay was great in Djibouti, but life is far better in Adair County."
