Hotbed for basketball needs hero(e$)

2007-05-18 - City Park at Fairgrounds - Photo By Ed Waggener.
Almost any time of day the basketball court at the City Park at the Fairgrounds is in use. Much of the time 3-on-3 are played full court. Today, before 3:00pm, Jeff Iames (black team) was going one-on-one with Justin Carter (for the orange). More participants show up after quitting time, they said, and that's when the full court games get started. Sometimes, someone is still shooting hoops, getting great exercise, as late as 9:00pm. Despite it's popularity, a much needed makeover is awaiting some grants or heroes. Columbia Parks & Recreation Board Chairman Charles Grimsley is hunting for the funds now. It will take $16-17,000 to widen, repave, restripe, install new regulation goal posts and make other needed upgrades, Grimsley said.
