2006 Adair CO Primary Election: She made history



2006-05-17 - Adair CO Courthouse Annex, Columbia, KY - Photo ColumbiaMagazine.com archives. ANN MELTON made history in the 2006 Adair County primary election, becoming the first woman in the history of the county to be nominated by her party for county judge-executive, the county's highest elective office. She did so in a convincing way, taking 52 percent of the vote in a four way race. She carried the absentee balloting and 13 of the 15 precincts to win. In the two precincts she failed to carry, Knifley and South Columbia No. 2, the margins totaled only a dozen votes. Most of her family was on hand for the event, including her parents, Dan and Peggy Waggener. She will face Terry Farris, who had no primary opposition, in the fall.
