New Columbia Police Department Chief Evan Burton

Congratulations to Columbia's new Chief of Police Evan Burton, announced at the August 5, 2024 City Council meeting. From left are: CPD Sergeant Justin Cross, Officer Tyler McKinney, Officer Ethan Pike, Officer Trevor Foster, Chief Evan Burton and his wife Cassie Jo. He began his law enforcement career with the Russell County Sheriff's Office where he worked his way up to a Patrol Sergeant and K9 Handler and was a 2012 Graduate of The Department of Criminal Justice Training. He transferred to the Columbia Police Department in 2019 and in 2022 graduated from the Academy of Police Supervision and currently serves as a Detective Sergeant. The Chamber of Commerce announced at the recent banquet that Detective Sergeant Burton had been elected the 2024 First Responder of the Year. Not quite a month later, he is the named the new Police Chief at the retirement of former Chief Charles Greer.
