2022-10-14 - Columbia, KY - Photo from Adair Co. Judge Executive Gale Cowan.
Adair Co. Judge Executive Gale Cowan writes, "We are excited to watch the progress each day on the new playground project underway at the Jim Blair Park and Recreation Center. I'm already getting calls wanting to know when it will be complete. We are in the process of obtaining quotes for fencing to go around the playground and for additional high definition cameras. This project came with a large price tag and we want the public to know we are serious about protecting it."

Birds of Kentucky: House Sparrow

2022-10-13 - Central Kentucky - Photo by Pen.
A juvenile house sparrow. According to the All About Birds entry on Passer domesticus, "House Sparrows in flocks have a pecking order much the way chickens in a farmyard do. You can begin to decipher the standings by paying attention to the black throats of the males. Males with larger patches of black tend to be older and dominant over males with less black. By wearing this information on their feathers, sparrows can avoid some fights and thereby save energy."
