A beautiful bloom on a cold winter day

2023-02-03 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Marie Freeman.
Marie writes, "I've never had an orchid. I fell, broke my ankle a couple years back. Had to have surgery. A good friend bought this for me in the gift store when she took me for surgery. It had a few blooms. It's never bloomed since. Which after researching it's not unusual for an orchid. They can bloom every year to two years, worth the wait, the bloom is beautiful. I found the most fascinating article about this plant at orchideria.com. It has no soil. It has aerial roots...relies strictly on water and air. Thought I would share a fascinating plant and a beautiful bloom."

The city of Shelbyville, including Columbia natives Pen and Tom Waggener's Sixth and Main Coffee House, at left, made WDRB Tv news because famous movie folks are there working on a biopic being directed by super star Ethan Hawke called "Wildcat." Filming was done in Shelbyville Tuesday and moved on to Frankfort Thursday and Friday. The subject is American novelist Flannery O'Connor who will be played by Hawke's daughter, Maya Hawke. The car at right is one of the props in the movie which is set in the 1950s.
