When I saw this in a vintage shop recently, I pictured Miss Ruth VanZant, society news editor and office manager in the 1960s Edmonton Herald-News office. She'd answer the classic black rotary dial telephone, "Herald News," listen, nod, say unhuh, ask occasional details, then hang up and pound out a story in no time flat on a typewriter much like this one. I was the high school news reporter and she allowed me to come in after class and use it. Monday's travel looked like this on many roads in the area after strong storms hit as predicted in the night.
