Prior to the summer months when locally produced tomatoes (maters) are in season, it is much anticipated and similarly with the onset of winter, it's loss is greatly lamented. Yes, biscuit and gravy, ham meat, potato salad, dry land fish, pinto beans and many others titillate inspiring and comforting memories in each of us. However, none of them garner scenes of lunches at country stores, lunches at our grandparents or lunches on a picnic table in the shade of the maple tree in our yard as does a bologna, mayo and tomato sandwich."
