Signs may be added to mark truck route around bypass

Among ideas discussed at the downtown traffic meeting at City Hall were possible additions of signs to help indicate the best truck route around Columbia. It will be especially helpful as drivers deal with the square being closed to through traffic from 7pmCT to 7amCT nightly from Tuesday, July 11, through Tuesday, July 18, 2023, as work begins to remove the wings from the historic Adair County Courthouse.

The top photo shows signage looking towards downtown from the connection of Hwy 55 N and the Veterans Memorial Bypass. The bottom photo shows signage looking towards downtown before the Bypass crosses Hwy 61/Burkesville Road.

Rose Kennedy in Adair County News in 1960

Among the historical documents on the walls of the Trabue Russell House is this news of Rose Kennedy, mother of then presidential candidate John F. Kennedy, when she brought his national campaign to Adair County, September 34, 1960. The event, a tea, was held at Cornelia Hughes' Motel on East 80 just past Circle R in Columbia. Hosted by local Democratic women, the regional event saw almost 1,000 women meet the future President's mother.

Tomatoes in Season at Farmers Market on the Square

Tomato season begins at FM2. These were grown in the Fairplay community of southern Adair County, KY. The Market is open Wednesday mornings and Saturday mornings at the corner of Merchant and Campbellsville Streets in Columbia.
