The Dinosaur Rock

2023-07-29 - Kinniconick Creek, Lewis County, Kentucky - Photo By Robert Ellis, Robert Ellis Woodworking.
Robert found these interesting "rocks" while exploring up in Lewis County, Kentucky. Robert writes, "I show any visitors that stop by the larger rock, and refer to it as my "dinosaur skin rock." The dark reddish dark brown, dimpled layer is around 1/4 thick. The skin is darker than the main body of the rock. It also has some (skin) on the top right and you can gauge the thickness rather easily. The larger rock was discovered several years ago, and the five smaller pieces were found on a return visit to the creek."

Robert estimates the larger rock to be somewhere around 10-15 pounds. He's been told that it could be part of an old tree, but, he says, "To me it's shaped more like a leg bone rather than a tree trunk. Whatever it might be it was alive at one time and makes for interesting conversation."
