Courthouse clock among wishes for restoration

As work progresses on Adair County's historic Courthouse we often hear hopes that the clock will once again be made to work. For years now, since Carl Hutchison's day when he could climb up the inside and keep it going, the clock has only been right twice a day on each of the four sides. Many in and outside of the Adair Heritage Association have studied and tried to recruit clock masters with no luck so far. The last word is that there are parts in the clock that have to be rebuilt. Birds of Kentucky: Limpkin

A Limpkin stopped by Lake Shelby back in May and made quite a stir among the local birdwatchers. This may or may not be the same bird, but it's the 2nd occurrence at Lake Shelby this year. While Limpkins are common along US coastal waters, they have not been frequently reported in Kentucky.

Paige Nickel shared status of Tourism in Adair

Paige Nickel, Executive Director of the Adair Tourism and Convention Commission, spoke at the August Columbia Adair Chamber of Commerce meeting held at Holmes Bend Marina. She announced the new economic impact data just out form the state which shows Adair County enjoyed the following Tourism income in 2022: employment 124 jobs, labor income of $3 million, state and local collected taxes $1.1 million, and tourism-related spending in the county $16.63 million.

Kelly Caldwell welcomes Chamber of Commerce

Holmes Bend Boat Dock and Marina sponsored the August Chamber of Commerce luncheon from their floating cafe at the Dock. Owner Kelly Caldwell welcomed everyone and shared the story of their growth over the past 30+ years. The Caldwells support Columbia and Adair County businesses by always sending their guests here. She and her husband Joey, their son Tanner, and staff made sure everyone got plenty to eat and drink at the meeting.

Blair Park equipment includes musical play

The new playground equipment at the Jim Blair Park and Recreation Center includes musical options. Even though one of the sticks has been damaged on the end, both still work to make the fun sounds.

Green River Commerce Park view

The Economic Development Authority (EDA) will meet Tuesday and discuss updates on progress at the Green River Commerce Park, pictured here on the new road from the second entry. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at 8amCT in the Training and Development Center, 201 Burkesville Street, Columbia.
