John Field House in 1977, showing addition

2023-08-31 - Columbia, KY - Photo from Darryl Smith.
Darryl writes, "Here is a picture from 1977 when the Field house was submitted to the National Register of Historic Places (maybe you already have this). I also have attached a link to the page containing all the information accompanying the application. There are additional pictures of the house on the link, and the entire file is downloadable as a .pdf. All of the pictures are black and white. The picture I have inserted is the only one showing any of the wooden additions made to the house in later years.

The John Field house was nominated in October 1977 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in February of 1978."

Racer at rest

2023-08-30 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Marie Freeman.
Marie writes, "This little one has decided to take a nap on the last of the harvest. It's not been a very good year to harvest, at least not in my neck of the woods."

Marie at first thought it to be a baby rat snake, because "They are born late August looking at the pupil is round and the markings." She says, "After referring to Snakesnap. The experts have confirmed that this is a black racer. Very beneficial and harmless but I did notice it was kind of aggressive, which I don't usually see in a small rat snake. Now I know why. September is baby copperhead season. Keep your eyes peeled."
