Handing out gifts of Psalms and Proverbs

Kenny Bennett, at left, and Greg Eastham, both from Columbia, were busy handing out New Testament Psalms and Proverbs to folks passing by booths at the Revisit Knifley Homecoming. They said they try to go to all events possible and share "the good news of Jesus Christ" in their work with the Gideons International organization.

Congratulations to the MCHS Golf Team!
 2023-09-15 - Metcalfe County, KY - Photo by Kim Harwood, Executive Director, Edmonton Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce. The Metcalfe County High School Golf Team won the 2023 16th District Tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023. The Hornets defeated Clinton, Cumberland, Monroe, and Russell Counties with a team score of 164. MCHS junior Collin Shive was the individual runner-up. Metcalfe will compete in the regional golf tournament at Indian Hills Country Club in Bowling Green on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Whitehurst Diaries: no fall garden this year
 2023-09-15 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Sharon Whitehurst. Sharon writes, "We have no fall garden this year. The relentless heat of late July and August didn't inspire the seeds of beets and green beans to germinate. Jim has run over much of the garden area with the tractor and bush hog.
We grew up calling these flowers New England Asters. They were roadside/pasture flowers of early autumn. I ordered seed several years ago for a variety of 'wild' asters and was delighted to find that I have four distinct colors, the traditional deep purple, lavender and two shades of pink. Of course I lost the tags and no idea of the correct name for each, so I refer to them by the English gardening term, Michaelmas Daisies. They have happily spread around the dooryard." - SH

Wilkerson named Elementary School Teacher of the Year

Donnie Wilkerson, a 5th-grade social studies teacher at Jamestown Elementary for the past 19 years, was named the 2024 Kentucky Elementary School Teacher of the Year at a ceremony on Sept. 13 at the Kentucky state Capitol building in Frankfort. Wilkerson loves to make learning history immersive and fun for his students.
