Gulf Fritillary, 2 of 2
2023-09-26 - Fairplay, KY - Photo by Veronica Arnold. Veronica writes, "Spotted on the Zinnias (apparently a favorite of most butterflies) is a Gulf Fritillary. I believe it to be a Gulf one because of the three white spots on each wing and the more orange darker hue than a regular Variegated Fritillary."

In these pictures you can see the butterfly's long tongue being used to find nectar in these flowers. I was able to stand right there, less than arms' reach away... guess the nectar was so good this flying guy didn't care that I stopped to spy."

TeachAg Day celebrated with young leaders
2023-09-25 - Columbia, KY - Photo From Adair Future Farmers post. Adair County FFA shared this news and picture, writing, "What better way to celebrate #TeachAg Day than to let our future Ag teachers teach? We were excited to have the opportunity to be Mystery Readers in Mrs. Dean's class! In reading the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture’s Book of the Year, "I Love Strawberries," students learned about the responsibility, decision making, and hard work involved in growing our food. After the book, students enjoyed a strawberry snack! What a great way to celebrate the day!!!!! Members who helped were Trenton Page, Caleb Edwards, and Bode Richard."

Collector $10 bill signed by Bruce Montgomery
2023-09-25 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. One of the local items in the collections at Goldmann & Silvermann is this rare $10 bill signed by Bruce Montgomery before First National Bank closed. (after the posting of this feature, readers advised us to look again - there were two local signatures on this bill - the second being Braxton Massie. History writer JIM also shared that it carries the designation "series of 1929" (to the upper left and lower right of Hamilton's effigy, so it was printed between then and 1935, when the last National Bank notes were issued. In that era, the "series of" date indicated the year a major design change occurred, not the specific year a bill was printed.)
