On these gray January days, we'll take a sunset from wherever we can get one - in this case from my grandson Graham's train trip through Montana. - LW

How does your family keep up with home recycling?

2024-01-06 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.

These handy recycling bins are in key places in Columbia and I've asked if Fiscal Court could buy them and sell them to the public.

With clear plastic bags it looks easy to track progress. Meanwhile, please share your methods for those of us trying to do it better in 2024. - LW

Birds of Kentucky: Easy-going

2024-01-05 - Shelbyville, KY - Photo by Pen.
There's been a snow goose hanging out with the Canadians at a Shelbyville park for the past couple of weeks. It tends to hang mid-flock, close enough to spot the distinctive black wingtips, but always gliding just out of range for a decent photograph.

This white goose, on the other hand, is much more sociable. It lives at the park full time, and is typically curious about humans. I had to take several steps away from it just to take a photo, and I suspect it would have hopped right into the car with me to check for crackers, given half a chance.

Snow family waves hello to weather changes

2024-01-05 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
This snow family made great holiday decorations but can stay out into the new year reminding us snow can be in the forecast any time there's rain and temperatures below the freezing mark. Showers arrive tonight and are predicted to stay into the weekend so drive carefully and watch for black ice.
