Butterfly hiding in plain sight
2023-10-05 - Frankfort, KY - Photo by Pen. I think this might be a question mark butterfly (Polygonia interrogationis), spotted along the Habitrek Trail at the Salato Wildlife Education Center just outside of Frankfort. From a distance, he blended perfectly with the mix of green and browning leaves along the trail. Wikipedia says, "The color and textured appearance of the underside of its wings combine to provide camouflage that resembles a dead leaf."
