Traditional New Years day meal for good luck
2024-01-01 - Harrodsburg, KY - Photo by Renea Watwon. Traditional meal for the New Year reaches back hundreds of years, but many do not practice the old ways in this new day. We do continue the traditions of our ancestors, but with a few modifications.
Our family brought in each January 1st with black eye peas, cabbage, fried jowl meat, and cornbread. That has not changed in 2024. There are a few slight changes: jowl bacon is served alongside country ham, the cabbage isn't fried but fried with onion and red pepper flakes in bacon drippings.
Ed always reminded me to take the photo first. I usually forget. But Mrs. Watson preserved this image before the noon-time meal. Leftovers in a few hours. Happy 2024 to you all!!

Birds of Kentucky: young American Eagle
2024-01-01 - South Central Kentucky - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. This young American Eagle (we think) was perched high above the Chaplin River area on New Years eve where it could do some serious hunting. Eagles don't get their full white heads until they mature and this one still has some color.

Happy New Year from the Pampered Angus Ranch
2023-12-31 - Bowling Green, KY - Photo by Vicky Pike.
A holiday gift - cheap gas for a change in Bowling Green Friday after the 65 cent discount from my Kroger card.
Zippy and Minnie needed a few necessities before the January winter weather sets in and farm chores ramp up. Angus girls and gents have to eat well for the next couple of months leaving little time for retail therapy out of town.
Happy New Year to all from our lively crew here at the Pampered Angus Ranch.
